Philly Cheesesteak Pizza with Caramelized Onions alongside a Romaine Salad and Spicy White Wine Vinaigrette
Moving from the East Coast to the Midwest has taken some adjusting, but I’m happy to be here. Chicago succeeds in blending New York’s hustle, Philly’s “neighborhood” feel, and Venice’s scenic waterways into one young & bustling city that I now call home. Are there things about the East Coast that I miss? Of course.
Real Pizza, the best colleges in the nation, Jewish Deli’s, Wawa, Mountains, The Concrete Jungle, spontaneous Atlantic City trips, BAGELS THAT DONT HAVE A FIRST NAME, the widely accepted policy of judging people by their license plate (PA, get over to the right lane), and last but not least: Jim’s Cheese Steaks!
You can imagine my relief when I was able to combine two of the above East Coast Icons into one mouthwatering meal (much more appetizing than combining Wawa and License Plates I suppose…). This unique, homemade pizza was created by using a HomeChef recipe – for those of you who don’t know, HomeChef is a meal-delivery service (much like BlueApron, HelloFresh, etc.) that delivers custom recipes to your home along with all the ingredients needed to execute them.
Ingredients
- 1 Yellow Onion
- 2 Garlic Cloves
- 1 Romaine Heart
- 3 oz. Grape Tomatoes
- 6 oz. Roast Beef
- 5 oz. Canned Evaporated Whole
- Milk
- 4 oz. Shredded Cheddar Cheese
- 2 Naan Flatbreads
- 1 tsp. Sugar
- 2 Tbsp. White Wine Vinegar
- ½ tsp. Red Pepper Flakes
The verdict? This one was a huge favorite. The end result most closely resembles a lovechild between a Philly Cheesesteak and a Hoboken Pizza (maybe NJ & PA can get along afterall?) and I was particularly impressed at the way that this recipe was able to accurately duplicate the cheesesteak experience on naan bread!
