For years my man has been talking to me about his “sushi kit” and offering to make me homemade sushi. After about 6 years, I finally took him up on the offer (partially to see just how much he was exaggerating his sashimi skills). As it turns out, he’s pretty skilled!
The hardest part of our sushi endeavor (aside from shaving individual avocado slices – that was decently exhausting) was finding a good place in the area to purchase quality fish.
After chatting with a dozen Chicago locals, we ultimately settled on Isaacson & Stein‘s in Chicago. The verdict? We were insanely impressed with the quality and selection.

All the rest fell into place – Bobby crafted the rolls and I took to decorating/topping them. Now that we know we’re capable of tackling the art of sushi, next time we will play around a little more with different colored roe and perhaps different textures.
Panko anyone?
